What the total includes

The calculator adds the lot price, Copart or IAAI buyer fees, towing to the US port, ocean freight, cargo insurance, customs duty, excise where it applies, VAT, the registration tax, a customs broker, local costs and the importer's fee. Repairs are an optional extra line.

Rates for 2026

Details are on the taxes and duties page. Auction fee tables are on the Copart and IAAI fees page.

What moves the price most

Salvage lots under $3,000 carry fixed auction fees of $600 or more, so the fee share is highest on cheap cars. Engine size drives excise in Poland and Ukraine. In Lithuania the CO₂ figure on the car's documents sets the registration tax. Ocean freight from the west coast runs several hundred dollars above the east coast.

Questions

Is the calculator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and needs no account.

How accurate is it?

Taxes follow the 2026 rules in the sources listed on the About page. Shipping and the importer fee are market estimates that you can override. Expect the final bill to land within about 10% below and 15% above the total shown.

Does it work for cars bought outside Copart and IAAI?

Yes. Pick the auction closest to your fee structure and set the importer fee by hand.

Is the 0% EU duty on US cars included?

It is an option. Tick the US origin box if you can prove the car was assembled in the USA. Many cars sold in the USA come from Canada, Mexico or Germany and still pay 10%.
